“In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the expiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.” 1 John 4:10-11 RSV

Have you ever wondered what selfless love means or what it looks like? The love the Scriptures try so hard to illustrate in many different ways? This love to all, even to your enemies? A love that makes you willing to sacrifice your most precious gift? Well, here’s what I’m learning about it. Let me know what you think.
The love of God in Christ through the Spirit, is the love the Godhead share with each other, and have chosen to share with us. This love is selfless, they love each other for the other’s sake, not just for personal benefits. They love watching and helping each other experience life in their own unique ways, as much as they love experiencing life on their own terms. As needed they willingly give their whole life or form of life to allow the other some new experience or expansion, and are thoroughly happy doing it.
This love they have chosen to share with us when they made us. When we voluntarily receive the love of God, it comes with love for ourselves and for our whole human family, not just our immediate or extended family. The more we exercise expressing that love in as many ways as possible, in as many conditions, under as many circumstances, for as many people as possible, the more we enjoy it and the more we grow.
Today’s Prayer:
God, your love is amazing! How you are able to be so much and love as selflessly as you do, is amazing to me. Thank you for seeing me, loving me for me, and helping me be me. Please show me how to love like you do, so others around me can grow and become more loving, too. Thank you. Amen.
Today’s Action:
Exercise your love muscles. Intentionally try to love at least one person today in a new way, or revive an old way. Pay attention to how you feel and how they respond.
