Free Love Pt 2

“You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down: you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely.” Psalm 139:1-4 NIV

Let us analyze love for a moment. God is an infinite source of love. His love is full and complete. Love is all-wise and all-powerful. Love searches out every cause and effect of your existence, every possible benefit and risk of your choices, every element that brought you here, every purpose that keeps you here, every fear that could take you out. Love is power, all power. It’s a verb. Love thinks, imagines, speaks, and acts. Love creates, heals, restores, nurtures, grows, protects, provides, frees, transforms, ennobles, enables, empowers… It even hates and destroys when it should.

Just think about it. If you had all knowledge, what would surprise you or shock you? If you had all power, what would stop you? Love itself imposes its own limits. Love desires to know and experience more about whatever it loves, to come closer to whoever it loves, to benefit and bless in every way possible. Yet it’s so highly respectful and reverent, that it’s willing to keep its distance, willing to observe without interfering, willing to offer without insisting, willing to wait for your voluntary involvement, lest it smother or extinguish or override your desire. Though it already knows all the answers, love wants to hear it from you. Though it already has all the power, love wants to watch you use yours.

God, Your love is mind-blowing. I’m out of words. Help me love as freely as you do. Amen.
