Chosen

“I chose you before I formed you in the womb; I set you apart before you were born. I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah 1:5 CSB

Babies are amazing, aren’t they? Have you studied how they are formed? Not by random selection as it may seem. Once a month women produce several follicles in the ovaries which race to develop into a mature egg. The fastest follicle to develop is released into the fallopian tube to travel to the uterus. Men produce millions of sperm on an ongoing basis, but they race to be the one to fertilize the egg. Science believes this selection of the egg and sperm is random, but I beg to differ.

I believe God had a brilliant idea: you. And he loved the idea so much, He decided to make you. I believe God selects the best ideas to accomplish his good plans to glorify humanity and bless the universe through us. While I have no way to back this up scientifically, I believe each child conceived is selected by God. To be specific, I believe you were selected by God. You are chosen. You are loved.

I’m not saying God intends for everything to happen just as does. God gave humans free will so He could cooperate with us. People make choices, and God makes the best of it. People make choices about their relationships, but we don’t get to choose which egg or sperm will be stronger or faster. God chooses which egg would develop and be released, and which sperm of the millions would reach the egg. Without that egg and that sperm, my mother, or my father for that matter, would not have existed or would have been someone else. But God chose to make my parents the way they were, because He needed them to make me what I am, because He has plans for this me in His eternal purpose. I am loved no matter what the conditions of my heritage have been.

The same is true for you. You may have come from circumstances or relationships that were less than ideal. God did not intend this, but knew He could bring something beautiful out of it: you. So you were chosen. You too are loved no matter what the conditions of your conception are. And it continues down your story from your heritage and conception, prenatal influences and birth, your childhood and youth, education and career, successes and failures, and everything in-between up to now, and God has been present making choices for your best possible outcomes. You may not see or understand or agree with His choices, but know He’s working it all for your good.

You are chosen. You are specifically selected. You are precious. You are loved no matter what.

God, you are all-wise in all things. Everything you do is the best thing possible for the most amount of good. And you chose to make me. Thank you. I haven’t always liked who or what You made me, but now I’m glad You did. And I trust You’ll work out the rest.
