God is Love: In the Beginning pt 5

“And [Love] said, Let us make man in our image and after our likeness and let them have dominion…” Genesis 1:26

Here’s a quick recap before we move on. Since God is love (1 John 4:8), we’re using God and Love interchangeably in Genesis 1 just to see how it enhances the meaning. We now know that Love is intelligent and intentional, it’s more than just a concept or a mindless force. Love is wise, balanced in thought, decisions and character, and creates joyfully, diligently, decently and in order. Love is never alone, but is distinct and unified, and is always together, and this is the mystery of Love’s power. Wow! Can there be anything more?

Yes! There’s more! Look what else I found in Genesis 1:26. Love made two humans, male and female, distinct individuals expressing Love’s mystery in unique forms, with a shared function of creating more little loves. Then Love gave them dominion, rulership or stewardship, over the earth and all the creatures and features in it and its continual creative productions. “Be fruitful and multiply…,” Love said. This can best be accomplished by copying Love’s demonstration at creation. Everything on Planet Earth produces something simply being itself, even more when working with others, and more of its kind by uniting with another. This is Love. Ultimately, Love would be the Ruler and the ruling principle.

Oh Love, You amazed me again. Thank you for this new understanding of You and Your ways. I confess I haven’t loved You, myself, other people or this planet as I should have. But You have shown me a new way to think about it. Now please send me the Spirit of Love to move me into creative action today and everyday, and show me how to work in unison with You and in harmony with others to bring the dominion of Love to this place.
