“And [Love] saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good…” Genesis 1:31 RSV

We’re winding down towards the end of the creation story and the first part of our experiment. We’ve explored the thought that God is Love, and watched Love create everything in an effective and beautiful fashion. Through our own human natures, we’ve caught a glimpse into the plurality, individuality, and perfect unity of this One Love.
I wanted to move on to another point, but this part of the verse caught my attention. Love saw that all that was made was not only good, but very good. That sounds like something Love would say! An arbitrary God or an inanimate force might not care what it made, might not care to make it worthy of praise, might not care to inspect it to be sure, and might not come to a positive conclusion. But God as Love definitely would smile, be proud of Himself, of His ideas, and of His handiwork. Especially of you. Right out of the starting gate, Love pronounces approval. You are “very good,” and you haven’t even done anything yet. Love loves you because of what Love does. It may be directed to you, but it’s NOT based on you. You are simply the product, the proof, the presentation of Love in human form.
Sit with that for a minute.

Oh, Love. You made me AND you love me. I haven’t always understood it, but from now on I accept it as fact. Because of You I am very good. Never let me forget this. Amen.
