Soaking It Up pt 3

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2‬:‭10‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The third way I’m gonna soak up God’s love this year is in creating handmade art. As a writer, poet, and songwriter, my heart and mind are often deeply engaged in my creative works. But this year I will invite my hands, my arms, and all my senses to join the party. I’m excited just writing it down!

Along with all the mental creativities, I’ve rediscovered my love for pencil drawing, and added a few more handy skills: hand lettering, calligraphy, watercolor pencil painting, letterpress printing, bookbinding, and paper and leather craft. Now with all this going on, I’m often overwhelmed with how to move forward in a systematic way. The love can get too fluid, too energetic to contain, too random to channel. So I’m going to focus on one skill at a time and just do quick sketches and doodles for now until I decide which one to start with and get all my materials together. God will direct me, provide what I need, and partner with me. Alright now!

Now here’s the best part. Not only am I using and copying the love of God to inspire my creations and polishing the artistic abilities I love and products I rely on, I also get to work for people I love, organizations I support, and causes I care about. Then I can pause the work and eat some delicious love? Oh, goodness! How can life get better than this?

This year’s gonna be good! Let’s get this party started! You can come, too. BYOS – Bring your own supplies. Or throw your own party.

God, you’re the first Creator and you made us in your image, so we’re creators, too. Thank you for these gifts. Help us use them well! Amen!
