“If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.” John‬ ‭15‬:‭7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

It’s day four of my experiment. They say Day 4 of any new habit is the hardest. If we can get past today we’re more sure of finishing successfully. Other challenging days will come, but those are easier to handle if we overcome today. So we’re staying the course.

The latest lesson I’ve learned about prayer is that we’re asking God to fulfill a particular promise, to keep His word. That’s all. Whatever other people do with it can’t be guaranteed. Looking for change or action from other people is a mistake I’ve made for many years, and is the set up for great disappointment. God will do what He said He will do. The prayer is answered. Praying for it only allows us to pay attention to Him, cooperate with Him, and learn to be like Him.

I spoke to my friend, and God has answered my prayers for her. Not in the way I hoped, but in a way she was willing to receive. In answering prayer, God often meets people where they are, not where they could or should be, or where we imagine they ought to be. This is love. God met her where she was, supplied her need, answered my prayer, kept His word, and taught me about Him all at once. And He’ll keep doing this for her, for me, for you… without fail. With that I am at peace.

I have some other things I need prayer for, so I’ll continue experimenting in the background, and occasionally share any relevant lessons or answers I receive. And please feel free to share yours.

Father, You love us so much You let us be ourselves while You be Yourself and answer our prayers. Continue to call me your find You, to abide in You, and to follow where You lead. Show me the next lesson. In Christ’s name. Amen.
