One significant thing I’m thankful for is the time I got to spend caring for my mother who had dementia until she passed a few years ago. Those were some of the hardest years of my life, but they helped set me on the career path I’ve chosen: the path of wellness coaching. In that time I learned the importance of taking care of your physical and mental health while you can, and the value of building strong family relationships.

Now I take special care to be sure my body and mind are in the best condition, and I’m lending my experience and skills as a wellness coach to help others do the same. Those years and lessons were a gift to me, more than any job or salary could be, and I’m grateful I had the privilege.

If you ever get the chance to care for your parents, in a large or small way, take as much of it as you can as an act of gratitude. Then be grateful. You will be able to look back on those years as the gift they are.
