“I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.” John‬ ‭17‬:‭22‬-‭23‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Before butterflies can really take off, they must first stretch and dry their wings after turning into liquid, being reconstructed, and emerging from their cramped cocoons. The drying, stretching phase can feel like the longest because they’re so close to the finish. And then one day, they’re ready and they’re off.

Today marks a shift for me, as Jesus experienced in his life. At one point there was a shift into Christ’s public teaching and healing ministry, and another here in this verse, when He is leaving His earthly ministry for a heavenly one, and sending His disciples into their own public ministry. His ministry while here was to show the great over-abundant love of God. So was theirs, and so is mine.

Today I begin doing the work God gave me to do, sharing the power of God’s love to heal us. I feel unprepared. My wings don’t feel fully stretched. But if God goes with me, He will help me to share His love as it should be. Today I fly, ready or not.

Father, help me stretch my wings! Give me extra measures of your love today, and more every day after. In Jesus name Amen.
