“God spoke: “Let us make human beings in our image, make them reflecting our nature…”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭1‬:‭26‬‬ ‭MSG‬‬

This verse has so much to unpack I must take my time. Being created in God’s image means so much. But let me give you some background to my thoughts, before I dive in fully.

Jesus, the Son of God, is the “express image” of God and the Creator of our world and our species. (Hebrews 1:1-5). As the perfect expression of God, He is specially qualified to create other expressions. We’ve already looked at what that could mean here. But after spending weeks creating bookmarks and other designs, I see it in a new light.

I imagine God sitting for his portrait and Christ painted us. Not only as an expression of the Father of Love, but of Christ’s love for the Father. We are Christ’s gift to God. A gift of praise and gratitude between Father and Son. We answer God’s biggest longing: to fully express His ever-growing, ever-expanding, never-failing character of love. No wonder the Father loves us! No wonder Christ died to save us!

God, thank you for designing us with so much intention for so high a purpose! Heal us completely so we can be all you intended! In Jesus name, Amen.
