This the beginning of a prayer experiment I stumbled on a few days ago. Go back to get the background thoughts or instructions if you’re new.
As I said, I’m not new to prayer, but prayer experiments hit different. I intended to have set-up done early yesterday and get started, but it took all day to get it set. But thank God, my Savior knows all about that.
There’s one thought that’s already shifting me. Starting with a clear view, appreciation, and trust in Christ’s love is bound to shift my prayers. The love of Christ is so powerful and empowering that I’m certain that anything can happen. The issues that bother and irritate me seem small and insignificant. What worries and frightens me can’t stop God from answering a prayer. At the beginning of the day I wasn’t even sure what I was going to ask for, but I was sure it will be done, just like it says. Apparently a huge part of the set-up is the anticipation and excitement it generates. And though it wasn’t formalized, I did share God’s love in more than one relationship yesterday, just sharing a blessing, testifying to a friend, and reaching out to another. Step 1 is set.
Step 2 is to memorize and meditate on a bible promise, letting His word abide. My verse for Day 1 is Philippians 4:19 “But my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in Christ Jesus.” A friend of mine has a need, and I told her I’d pray for her. I’m asking God to honor this promise as if it’s me, give it to her in a way that she knows it’s Him, let her sleep soundly and not worry at all, and have her call me back to tell me about it. This is a small prayer, but a good one for a prayer experiment. Though I didn’t go into detail here for privacy sake, it is very specific, so when it happens I’ll know it’s not a coincidence.
Now we pray. And we wait. That’s Step 3.
Father! Thank You for the chance to understand the science of prayer. You know my friend and what she needs. Forgive her and heal her. You promised to supply our needs, and supply it according to the riches of Your abundant glory in Christ. I’m asking that You not only supply her external practical needs, but also her inner soul needs. Let her know it’s You, let her give You the glory for it, and let her call me and tell me. Call her to worship You with her whole heart. Thank you!
